SATURDAY, MARCH 9, 2019 - 8:15-12:30pm Sponsored by TCARC and Scholastic! Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center, 11411 Masonic Home Drive Bloomington, MN 55437 What to do When Kids Just Don't Get It: Prompting for Comprehension During Guided Reading A key requirement of state literacy standards is that students comprehend increasingly complex text, yet many students struggle to make inferences and answer questions about deeper meaning. This session focused on how to use small-group instruction to strengthen young readers' understanding of fiction and informational text. Guided reading provides an ideal opportunity for the teacher to assess student understanding and scaffold for deeper comprehension. Jan referenced her book: The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading during her presentation. Jan also provided an overview of her new book: The Next Step Forward in Reading Intervention! Audience: K-5
